چکیده

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of two different cadences at a constant workload on muscle activity and muscle coactivation of competitive cyclists. Two cadences were tested (70 and 90 rpm) at a constant power output related to the second ventilatory threshold (325 ±35W). Activation of tibialis anterior (TA), medial head of gastrocnemius (GM), soleus (Sol), long head of biceps femoris (BF) and vastus medialis (VM) muscles were assessed during the propulsion phase of crank cycle (0-180° of crank cycle) using surface electromyography. Superimposed timing was used to compute coactivation between antagonist muscles. Lower coactivation at 90 rpm compared to 70 rpm (p<0.01) was observed for BF/VM. Cyclists should use cadences close to 90 rpm to reduce muscle coactivation and improve their pedalling technique and cycling economy.

Cocontraction and economy of triathletes and cyclists at different cadences during cycling motion.

The purpose of this study was to compare the cycling technique of triathletes and cyclists on the basis of the cocontraction of selected muscles of the lower limbs and economy at different cadences. The economy (EC) and percent cocontraction from nine triathletes and eight cyclists were compared at 60, 75, 90 and 105 rpm cadences. Tests were performed on two separate days. The maximal oxygen up...

Effect of Different Cycling Conditions on Sagitall and Frontal Lower Limb Kinematics of Competitive and Recreational Cyclists

The aim of the current study was to compare sagittal and frontal hip, knee and ankle joint kinematics between competitive and recreational road cyclists across different workloads and pedalling cadences. Five competitive and five recreational healthy male road cyclists performed four conditions (85 rpm and 95 rpm at 200 W and 65 rpm and 75 rpm at 230 W) in random order to cover a variety cadenc...

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of two pedaling methods on lower limb muscles fatigue index and muscular activity in road cyclists. For this purpose eight road cyclists participated in two separately session in laboratory. They were pedaling with pushing technique in first session and circling (pullingpushing) technique in the other session. Surface electromyography activity...

Do Kinematics of the Pelvis and Lower Limb Vary between Novice and Highly Trained Cyclists?

INTRODUCTION Previous studies have shown that novice and highly trained cyclists use different patterns of leg muscle recruitment when cycling [1, 2]. Novice cyclists are characterized by greater individual variance, greater population variance, longer durations of muscle activity, more extensive and more variable muscle coactivation, and less modulation of muscle activity. The data also show t...

The influence of cadence and power output on force application and in-shoe pressure distribution during cycling by competitive and recreational cyclists.

The aim of this study was to determine the response of cyclists to manipulations of cadence and power output in terms of force application and plantar pressure distribution. Two groups of cyclists, 17 recreational and 12 competitive, rode at three nominal cadences (60, 80, 100 rev x min(-1)) and four power outputs (100, 200, 300, 400 W) while simultaneous force and in-shoe pressure data were co...
